From what age can my child start classes with Simply Theatre Academy?
We run weekly courses in drama and performing arts for all ages between four and eighteen years old.
Can my child try a few classes before committing to the full year?
We offer taster classes each spring as an opportunity for children to experience a class at Simply Theatre. Outside of this time, it is not possible to trial a single class. For 2024-5 we have a new 3-week bookable trial option. A 3-week trial on a course can be booked via our parent portal. There are a limited number of 3-week trial places per course available to book on a first come first served basis. Furthermore, at the start of each year, the first half term to the end of October can be considered a trial period for new students. It is very important for us that the students that are on our courses, want to be there and love being there! So, if during the trial period, should a student decide to leave, any unused fees will be refunded. For full T & Cs click here. Alternatively, our week-long Summer camps are a great way to experience what life at Simply Theatre is like before committing to a year-round course.
Where can I find the term dates?
Please search under the locations tab to find your local academy page with maps, term dates and other information for your local academy. Alternatively please follow these links to the academy pages Annecy, Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, Zurich and Zug
Is it possible to join Simply Theatre part-way through an academic year?
We do not generally enrol new students during the academic year. All of our courses are year-round and an essential part of our academy courses is building the ensemble. During Term 1 we focus on creating strong foundations on which to build throughout the year, growing trust and confidence within the group. In term 2 we then progress towards exploring a particular musical or play with the same children, and we then build towards our end-of-year showcases in Term 3. Ensuring consistency in the class group ensures the best learning environment for our students.
Our spring open days, summer camps or our October half-term camp can be a great way to trial what life is like at Simply Theatre until enrolments open for the next academic year.
What level of English is required to join a Simply Theatre course?
It is a requirement that all students have a good understanding of English and are confident speakers of conversational English. This ensures all students are able to follow instructions and fully join in with the classes. We welcome students from a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds.
What if my child doesn’t enjoy their class?
We endeavour for all children to enjoy their time at Simply Theatre, and are confident that our tailored courses can nurture all types of personality and abilities. However, if a child or parent feels that Simply Theatre is not the right fit for them within the first 6 weeks of term, we will cancel their place on the course.
What if we miss a class?
Regular weekly attendance is essential for all of our courses. No refunds or make-up classes are offered if a student misses a class. We do understand, that illness and some other commitments cannot be avoided. We ask that all parents/students inform the academy team ahead of time if they are unable to make a session.
What do students need to wear to their classes?
All students are provided with a Simply Theatre Academy t-shirt at the start of the academic year. Minis (ages 4 to 6 years old) wear red Simply Theatre t-shirts, while students in Stages 1 – 4 wear (ages 7 through to 18) wear black Simply Theatre t-shirts. All students are asked to come to class in black leggings or trousers, their hair tied up and minimal jewellery. Further details for specific requirements for PA classes can be found in our terms and conditions.
How will you keep me informed about my child’s development?
At the end of Term 1, we have open classes. Parents are invited into the studio to see the style of teaching, the environment, and the types of activities we have been working on. In Term 2 we have individual parent-teacher meetings. These one-on-one conversations focus on your child and how they are progressing. Staff will also be available to book an appointment on the phone or by email if you have any specific concerns or feedback during the year.
